Recap
Dayan Viciedo homered and scored twice, Juan Pierre stole home on a double steal and Mark Buehrle won for the first time in six weeks in Chicago’s rain-shortened, six-inning 6-2 win over Cleveland on Saturday.
The game was played in a driving rain until puddles made the field unplayable after six innings. The game was called after a delay of a little more than an hour.
Pierre gave the White Sox a 1-0 lead in the first when he stole home after Omar Vizquel stole second. Tyler Flowers scored on a wild pitch in the second to extend the lead to 2-0.
Cleveland tied the game in the third with an RBI single by Asdrubal Cabrera and a Mark Buehrle balk that scored Michael Brantley, but Brent Lillibridge’s two-run single keyed a three-run fourth off Tribe starter Carlos Carrasco, which proved to be the difference.
Carrasco (2-2) allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings for his worst start since being called up Sept. 1.
Viciedo added a solo shot in the sixth inning to cap Chicago’s scoring.
Buehrle (13-13) won for the first time since Aug. 19 to avoid finishing a season with a losing record for the second time in his career. He allowed two runs and six hits in six innings to end a four-game losing streak.
