Recap

Scott Sizemore hit a three-run homer and Justin Verlander won his 17th game as the Detroit Tigers beat the lifeless Chicago White Sox 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Sizemore hit a pinch-hit blast, his second of the season, off Sox rookie Chris Sale with two outs in the eighth inning to snap a 3-3 tie. Alex Avila and Austin Jackson delivered a pair of two-out singles against Sergio Santos (2-1) to start the rally that sent Chicago to its season-high fifth straight defeat, all at home.

Verlander (17-8) pitched his third complete game of the season and ninth of his career, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight to win his fifth consecutive start against Chicago, improving to 9-1 during the day this season and 2-6 all-time at U.S. Cellular Field.

The three-time All-Star is 4-0 over his last five outings and has pitched seven-plus innings in 17 of his last 23 games.

Ryan Raburn got Detroit on the board with a two-run single in the first inning against Sox starter Lucas Harrell and Will Rymes added an RBI double in the fourth to forge a 3-0 lead.

Chicago reached Verlander in the fifth for three runs on four hits. Brent Morel and Mark Teahen stroked back-to-back doubles, Juan Pierre plated a run two batters later with a groundout and Alex Rios tied the game with a run-scoring double.

Harrell, starting in place of Freddy Garcia, lasted five frames, yielding three runs, eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
