Alouettes 20, Redblacks 10: S.J. Green caught a short touchdown pass and James Rodgers ran for another score as host Montreal won the battle between the struggling franchises.
Jonathan Crompton was 15-of-25 for 245 yards with one interception while Tanner Marsh completed his only pass attempt for the touchdown as the Alouettes (2-7) halted their six-game losing streak. Brandon Whitaker gained 100 yards on 17 carries and Duron Carter hauled in five passes for 127 yards.
Henry Burris completed 21-of-34 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown for the Redblacks (1-8), who have dropped six in a row. Wallace Miles made seven catches for 101 yards and a score while Chevon Walker led Ottawa on the ground with 31 yards on seven rushes.
Ottawa grabbed the lead on Brett Maher's 30-yard field goal just over five minutes into the contest, but Montreal jumped ahead late in the opening quarter on Marsh's 1-yard TD pass to Green. The Alouettes registered a single for the only point of the second quarter and sandwiched two more around Sean Whyte's 22-yard field goal in the third for a 13-3 advantage.
The Redblacks drew within three points as Burris connected with Miles on a 28-yard scoring pass with less than 6 1/2 minutes remaining in the fourth. But after Crompton hit Carter with a 48-yard toss after the ensuing kickoff, Rodgers found the end zone from 17 yards out to restore Montreal's 10-point cushion.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ottawa has scored a total of 25 points over its last three games. ... The Redblacks permitted Montreal to rush for 183 yards after averaging 128.5 yards allowed on the ground over their first eight contests. ... The Alouettes entered having thrown for an average of 191.6 yards in their first eight games.
