Tiger-Cats 33, Redblacks 23: Dan LeFevour made the most of his first CFL start, passing for 361 yards and running for 109 more to lead host Hamilton over Ottawa.

LeFevour was 21-of-30 and completed a long touchdown pass to Brandon Banks while adding a rushing score for the Tiger-Cats (1-3), who played their home opener at McMaster University. Running back C.J. Gable also ran for a TD while gaining 167 combined yards.

Henry Burris completed 27-of-44 passes for 290 yards, including touchdown tosses to Marcus Henry and Matt Carter for the Redblacks (1-3). Henry led all players with 138 receiving yards on 10 catches.

LeFevour wasted little time opening the scoring, finding Banks for a 53-yard touchdown on the second play from scrimmage after completing a 24-yard toss to Samuel Giguere. Gable scored on a 47-yard rush with less than six minutes left in the first quarter to re-establish Hamilton’s lead shortly after Burris knotted the contest with a 10-yard scoring pass to Carter.

A catch-and-run of 82 yards by Gable set up LeFevour’s 1-yard touchdown run, which put the Tiger-Cats ahead with 5:16 remaining in the fourth quarter. Justin Medlock added some insurance with a 32-yard field goal with 55 seconds remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Medlock finished 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts. … Ottawa entered the contest with the worst pass defence in the league, allowing 287.0 yards per game. … Redblacks DB Jovon Johnson had one sack and one interception, while Hamilton DB Craig Butler picked off Burris for his first interception with the Tiger-Cats.
