The Vancouver Canucks look to set a franchise record by winning their fifth consecutive game to open the season on Saturday when they hit the road for the first time to face Pacific Division-rival Los Angeles Kings. The Canucks, who won their first four contests in 1992-93, have matched that feat by rallying for a shootout win and two overtime victories before holding on for a 2-1 triumph over Buffalo on Thursday.

"We don't want to be coming from behind in the third period in every single game," said Jannik Hansen, who scored the 100th goal of his career on Thursday. "It's not something you can do over a long stretch." While Vancouver has four victories in six nights, Los Angeles won its first of the campaign by posting a 4-3 overtime triumph over Dallas on Thursday. Defenseman Alec Martinez, who knows a thing or two about scoring memorable goals in OT (see: 2014 Stanley Cup Finals-clincher in double overtime), netted the winner 1:20 into the extra session to help Los Angeles avert losing four straight to start the season for the first time in franchise history. The 29-year-old's run of success hasn't carried over against Vancouver, as he has yet to score a goal in 17 career encounters.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, CBC (Vancouver), FSN West (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (4-0-0): Brandon Sutter was refreshingly honest when asked how many people he thought believed Vancouver would start the season with four wins in as many games. "Probably zero. Even the guys in this room," said the 27-year-old Sutter, who recorded his second two-point performance in three games on Thursday to give the Canucks their fourth home win - an accomplishment achieved last season on Dec. 7. Jacob Markstrom has provided a big hand in that regard, following up his strong showing in the World Cup of Hockey for Team Sweden by posting a 3-0-0 mark with a 1.65 goals-against average and .932 save percentage for Vancouver.

ABOUT THE KINGS (1-3-0): Forward Tanner Pearson has returned from his suspension with a flourish, recording three goals and an assist to go along with a plus-4 rating. "I think Tanner, as I said when he came back, hey, you want him to score any game, but he’s going to get opportunities and he can play in your top two lines, and that’s, quite honest, what we need," coach Darryl Sutter said. Sutter also welcomed the unexpected scoring contribution of Nic Dowd, who netted his first tally of his eight-game career and became the second Alabama-born player in NHL history to score a goal - joining Aud Tuten (1941-42).

1. Vancouver has seen seven different players account for its nine goals scored this season.

2. Los Angeles C Jeff Carter has recorded back-to-back two-point performances after being held off the scoresheet in his previous two.

3. The Canucks are 3-0 in games venturing past regulation after going 9-13 last season.

PREDICTION: Kings 3, Canucks 2
