How to use our college football odds screen

After doing your due diligence at our college football Scores and Matchups page, you’ll have a good idea of the wagers you’d like to place. The next step will be to locate the absolute best betting lines.

The most successful sports bettors find a way to consistently get the best odds on their wagers, and you can do the same.

Our NCAAF odds comparison tool makes it easy to view odds on upcoming games from all the top sportsbooks in your area.

• The best odds available for each side of each game are highlighted in green
• Each column represents a top sportsbook. Click the name of the book to be taken to its website.

Getting started

American odds are the default format, but you can switch to decimal or fractional odds if you prefer. Next, pick your bet type — the spread is the default setting here, but you can also view moneylines and totals (Over/Unders). Finally, decide whether you’d like to view full game odds or first-half odds.

Opening lines

The opening line is the first set of odds released by the sportsbook and can be found in the ‘Open’ column towards the left of the screen. Compare the opening line with the current odds to see how much a line has moved since it has opened. You can also see detailed line movement for each game by clicking the Graph Icon icon.

Consensus

On the far right of our NCAAF odds comparison tool, you’ll see a column titled ‘consensus’. Each row below will show the percentage of Covers community members who’ve bet on each team — without taking line movement into consideration. Check out our college football consensus page to see the percentage of bettors backing each team at a specific line.

College football odds explained

The most common bet types in college football are point spreads, moneylines, and Over/Unders (totals).

Spread

Point spread bets are the most common college football wagers. Favorites will be shown with a minus (-) sign. To win a bet on a favorite, the team will have to win by more than the number listed next to the minus sign. For example, if a team is favored by -3.5, they will have to win by at least four points for you to win your wager.

Underdogs have a plus (+) sign next to the point spread. For you to win a bet on an underdog, the team must win the game outright or lose by fewer points than the number listed. For example, a line of +4.5 tells you a team must win the game outright or lose by four points or less for you to cash in on your wager. Our point spread guide is an excellent resource for new college football bettors.

By selecting ‘spread’ from the drop-down menu, you can compare the college football spreads set by the top sportsbooks in your area.

Moneyline

Moneyline betting allows you to pick the team you think will come out on top — without worrying about the specifics. American odds are the default setting here. Favorites are displayed with a minus (-) sign, and underdogs are shown with a plus (+) sign. Check out our moneyline guide to learn more, and see how much you stand to profit using our moneyline calculator.

Select ‘moneyline’ from the drop-down menu to view upcoming college football moneylines.

Over/Unders

With Over/Unders (totals), oddsmakers establish a total number of points that two teams are expected to reach in a given contest. As a bettor, you can take the Over if you believe the teams will exceed that total. If you anticipate a low-scoring affair, you may opt to take the Under. Learn more about Overs/Unders with our Over/Under guide.

Check out the latest college football Over/Unders by choosing ‘total’ from the drop-down menu above.

Futures

College football futures are odds on events that take an extended period to play out, such as odds to win the national championship or odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Futures odds will change over the course of the season as they react to results, injuries, and betting action.
