Is that nope the user name isn't retired, or it that nope it can't be done. If it's the later what about an avatar of a banned member for an existing account, or a new account, with a slight variation of the banned members handle. None of this is spelled out in the forum rules so just wondering if it's arbitrary and made up as it comes about. Thanks for your timely response and thanks in advance.

Thanks Weebs for the straight answer. My golf , gambling partner turned me on to this site quite a few years ago. He's been a peep for many years and uses the site for lines and match ups, but doesn't post in the forums. I've been encouraging him to come aboard and just thought he might like to use a banned members handle because they both have the same first name, and I was going to ask him to do it for me. So is a name with a slightly different spelling or number okay, as long as it's not exactly the same? Thanks again.

What the previous member of Covers-Team failed to mention is that by creating another account you will be creating an alias...which will cause you to be banned from the site also.

Covers Team ... ummm... let me be of some help here if I may. Not once did he say HE was going to make another name... his buddies name is similar to a person who (self banned himself) and he was making the appropriate steps of making sure it would be ok if his buddy used a close variation to the previously banned members name since his first name is the same name of the previously self-banned members name...

I have another question. I use a proxy on my home desktop(for my protection) and I would like to create another account. If I am honest and up front about the second account, can I use it without punishment?

I would suggest you tell your friend "No". What is the point of creating more drama around here? It is a sports gaming forum...have your discussions about the games, share information, track your wagers. Forget about all of the other crap.
There is no guarantee your "friend" won't be banned as an alias.

My small brain's having a hard time grasping all this, for one CT member tells me if my buddy signs on with a similar not the same username, it should register, and you're telling me that you "suggest" I tell him no. Does that mean no you don't want a new contributing member signing up at all, or just not signing with a username similar to a previously self banned member?
Second, why the automatic assumption that he would only create drama, when he's been using this site for many more years then me, but has always been in the "shadows" non actively enjoying the discussions, using the shared information, and especially keeping track of wagers, since he and I are basically gambling partners.
I do understand this is basically a gambling site, but with the diverse forums, GD, investments, politics, etc. etc, there's plenty more that gets discussed here than just gambling. The Penalty Box in particular has a history of anything goes, yet now there seems to be limitations for selected members there, and more leeway for others.
I guess in closing, as this will be my last post in this matter, someone, whether it's just you or someone else, must think my referencing this person as a friend is bogus, therefore the quotation marks around friend in your last post, implying sarcasm or an attempt at deception by me. I assure you that's not the case at all. Thanks again for your time.

What I'm saying is that the system will probably not catch him upon registration...but there is no guarantee he won't be booted by a Mod after a few days. One of our moderating "red flags" for alias use is name proximity. He will be instantly red flagged and once there is any drama at all he will be relieved of his posting privileges...and if my instincts are correct, the new username will most certainly create drama.

Drama will follow him everywhere. If it's so important that he register and post here after all of this time...PICK ANOTHER USERNAME.

It was me who put the quotation marks around friend the other day. I apologize if it offended you. I just have a hard time believing that insistence on using an aliasy username is so important to someone who is, in fact, not an alias.
