Detroit is a profile in liberal Democratic governance and the associated failures with those policies.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Friday that Detroit Mayor Dave Bing could seek between $125 million and $150 million in short-term funding as the city looks to avoid running out of money before the middle of the year.
Guess which are the two biggest employers in the city of Detroit?
The failed public schools and the city government.
This sums it up correctly:
When American cities embraced the high cost, high regulation statist model two generations or so ago, they were often the richest and most dynamic places in the country. Increasingly “progressive” policies, with higher wages for unionized teachers, bigger bureaucracies enforcing tighter regulations, more “planning” by qualified technocrats and more government services and benefits to improve the quality of residents’ lives were supposed to take the American city into a new golden age.
It’s hard to think of many social experiments that have more disastrously failed.
===================
But of course in the age of Obama these same policies are believed to "create jobs" and "bend the cost curve" of health care.
There is a word for people who believe such things. Dupes.

Its pretty funny how guys like you sit around your house jerking off everytime you read about some bad news. You must live a really lonely horrible life, to get excited when bad things happen in society. Yes am sure the whole world would be so much better if the polticians you like were in power, lmfaooooooooo. News flash for you, it would still be the same. Until clowns like you realize the root of all our problems is the increasing population, while the decreasing jobs {because of them all being allowed to go overseas} it doesnt mean jack shit who is the President. So you can keep sitting on your ass, blaming everything on Obama all you want, but if both sides dont figure out a way to get jobs back here in this country, so people can make the economy function, our country is doomed and at some point in time{how many years, i dont know} we will no longer exist. So if you think total chaos and people killing each other is the answer you are looking for, then keep beating your meat everytime you read some bad news. Careful for what you wish for, because punks like you will be the first ones taken out when the chaos begins and hiding in your parents basement wont save your ass.

Please wake up to reality. while apple is making billions and billions of dollars paying people 16 cents an hour overseas, our people are going jobless. way to go companies like apple. Thank God am not running the country, because all those American companies making products overseas, wouldnt even be allowed to sell their shit in this country. They can sell it to the people over there who are making it for them

Um, that isn't the "root of our problems" at all.
Government regulation is. Survey after survey confirms this, Steve Jobs said this to Obama, and so have many other buisness leaders.
Jobs go "overseas" because of high corporate taxes and regulations.
Yet you'll vote for the candidate supporting higher taxes and more regulations.
While blaming it all on population growth and whatever else you can dream up.

what taxes jerkoff? Most of the fortune 500 companies paid zero taxes, so keep believing the bullshit scumbags like steve jobs said. His company pays people 16 cents an over and once those people can no longer use their hands to make the products due to super carpal syndrome they kick them to the curb. Maybe if you started looking out for the regular man in society, instead of sticking up for the scumbag who create the mess our countries in, you might actually become a better person. As far as regulations, yes we should just go back tot he old days where companies can just pollute the environment all they want and dump whatever chemicals they want to dump into the lakes and rivers. Yes lets let companies do that again.
You really are one dumb person that is easily brain washed by the very same people who ruining and shitting on our country.

Part of your statement is correct. Jobs going overseas is a problem, but population has nothing to do with the situation. If anything greater population = more demand for goods and services =more production = more jobs.
But you are correct that the expatriation of jobs is a problem.
If it wasn't then we could just tackle main st. America with abortion propaganda, and we could see no population or negative population growth. The model has worked with African Americans. If people would just kill more babies we could all be fat and happy.

I guess that explains the American worforce of 108 million.
"All the jobs" are gone!!~!
Note you can't bring yourself to say a single critical thing about Obama, big government, or regulations.
this post shows just what a total loser you truly are and how you throw out bullshit facts. I hate to burst your bubble, bubbleboy but the majority of those jobs are not great paying jobs at all. Most are probably minimum wage jobs or service type jobs. Out of the 108 million you state, you can bet your ass a big number isnt good paying manufacturing type jobs. So really wake up and use your eyes for one time in your life. The core jobs of our country, the middle class jobs are all being sent overseas to be done for slave labor wages and guys like you get your rocks off on that shit. Just know when our country become no more, you bubbleboy will be no more.

Rick, you are 100 percent wrong with your logic. You must not have thought it thru long enough. Jobs and population go hand in hand, you cant separate them. If the population goes up, sure there is more demand for things, if there is no jobs for people to earn a wage, then they cant buy anything. Thats why we have more and more people needing help to just get by. We had more jobs in the country 20 years ago, with a smaller population. Doesnt take a math major to figure out whats gonna happen, as the population keeps increasing, while the jobs decrease. Total chaos with people killing each other just for a piece of food. Like i said, i agree demand goes up as the population goes up, but if nobody can buy anything, then they will have to resort to getting govt help or stealing and thats a fact. You bring jobs back here and the economy will start growing again because of like you said the demand for more things. It all comes down to the jobs and making money

Not everyone can make six figures CD. Low wage jobs are used as a stepping stone, or temporary employment. If anything, I think we have seen (via the failures in Detroit, American Steel, and the airlines) that you cant artificially inflate wages and expect success, not only as a company, but as a long term business model.
It would be great to have awesome paying jobs for everyone, but at this point Don't you think we should be focusing on full employment, or at least something south of 5% . Wages are a fight for another day, if you want to fix the employment picture anyway.
If you just want to stoke class conflict, then by all means put the cart before the ox.

CD, I do not think we will be killing each other for food, but it brings up a good point on why we are not. The price of food is actually asininely low right now. It is artificially cheap because of the savings on labor. If we hired Americans to do that work, it would be much much more expensive, probably about double what you pay now. I am saying that if we want to fix the country's employment situation, we are going to have to do tough things, like not allow corporations to use slave labor to keep their products artificially low. Food producers will have to pay a livable wage, which will be a huge shock to the system, but in the end it will lead to more participation, because smaller farms will not be unfairly kept out of the picture by the inability to hire slaves.
It would be a renaissance in farming. Our communities would grow stronger, we would have a greater appreciation for the work that food production entails, we might even make better decisions about our diets (who knows).
A move like this would work on so many different levels to bring a little bit of sanity into our system.
-The multinational corporation would be forced to compete with the local farm, the local farm now has the edge because they do not have any great amount of transport or overhead when it comes to bringing the goods to market, as well as the freshness of getting goods to market more quickly.
-You want to talk about distribution of wealth, fine, lets talk about distributing wealth through free markets while tearing down a practice that borders on human rights abuses. I have no idea how people would be against that.
-Just as legalizing marijuana would shut down the cartels, forcing immigration laws to apply to this sector, and tightening the work visa program would curtail the flow of slaves over the border.

As far as regulations, yes we should just go back tot he old days where companies can just pollute the environment all they want and dump whatever chemicals they want to dump into the lakes and rivers. Yes lets let companies do that again.
Nice strawman. Hey, how many chemicals does a software company like Apple have to dump in rivers anyway?

NetJets Inc., the private-plane company owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK/A), was countersued by the U.S. over $366 million in taxes and penalties.
NetJets in November sued the U.S., saying the federal government had wrongly imposed taxes, interest and penalties totaling more than $642.7 million.
Claiming the federal Internal Revenue Service wrongfully assessed a so-called ticket tax -- an excise tax on payments made in exchange for air transportation -- to private aircraft owners maintaining their own planes, the Columbus, Ohio-based company demanded refunds and abatements.
The federal government, in a revised answer and countersuit filed yesterday in federal court in Columbus, rejected NetJets’ claims and alleged that four of the company’s units owe unpaid taxes and penalties.

Good work troll, any other meaningless shit you can dig up that has no bearing on CD's claims?

Ha, regulations. Those are great, talk to any person in the Ohio valley that can light their tap water on fire, or all the kids in western PA that are born with serious deformities, or die to cancer by the time they turn 12, or maybe the respiratory problems of giant swaths of West Virginia.
Yes, those regulations are certainly ending the bad processes of industrial society.
I guess you could believe that if you didn't see it every day.
Can't even fucking fish in the Monongahela river anymore.
The fact of the matter is that anyone who matters in the Energy industry gets waivers that allow them to fuck shit up.
They slap a few wrists during the year, and shut down a startup that looks like it might be successful to make it look like they are doing something.
A company I am associated with won a settlement clawing back money from a group of people that claimed their water was tainted by Fracking operations. Good thing for the company that they found a well that was contaminated before hand. Therefore there was a reasonable doubt that they were all contaminated. Yayyy for un-named oil/gas multinational corporation.
