Well after an unfortunate 2nd Half bet in the Denver/Portland game, let us turn our attention to Friday's card shall we?! Some interesting games on the board tomorrow that have drawn my attention.
Toronto @ Memphis After Toronto's opening win against the powerhous/public loving Cavaliers, you can bet a lot of gamblers have taken notice. Cleveland's 0-2 start has been at the forfront on all the major sports sites/tv shows, and with mention of the Cavs struggles also comes the Raptors winning a game against a far superior team. Memphis on the other hand appeared to be the same old team from last season as they were demolished by the new look Pistons 96-74.
I look at this way. You have a Raptors team that just pulled a big upset. They won a game many thought they wouldn't even contend in. Now they play arguably one of the weakest/youngest teams in the league in Memphis... a team that just took it on the chin two nights ago. Who do think the public is going to favour in a situation like that? Obviously Toronto.
I've seen it time and time again where underdog teams pull off a big upset win and then come out flat against a weaker opponent. I think this game fits the criteria, and it pains me to say it because I love my Raptors. But I gotta go with the Grizz here.
Memphis +4
Washington @ Atlanta The Wizards were +8 underdogs on opening night in Dallas. Despite Washington being relatively healthy this time around, many people still needed to be convinced that the Wizards were going to be a different team this year. Was Arenas going to be the old explosive player he was pre-injury problems. Could Caron Butler continue to be a go to guy? How would the additons of Miller and Foye affect the team? Well not only did Washington manage to compete with highly favoured Mavericks, they actually won the game outright. Arenas looked superb as he the game in points and assits. And newly aquired players Miller and Foye did an excellent job fitting in with their new team.
I look at this way. This game is a little similar to the Toronto @ Cleveland game. In this case however the underdog Wizards are up against yet another superb team in the Hawks. The spread on this game opened at Hawks -6.5 and has hit already hit -7 at some books. This is going to be sitation where people will feel as though the spread is too high. As I said before, Washington is coming off of win in which they were +8 dogs. Now again they are big dogs against a fairly comparable(to the Mavericks), dare I say weaker(than the Mavericks) Atlanta team.
You can bet that a lot of people will be on the Wizards in this game simpily due to what happened against Dallas. It's happened before and it will continue to happen. Hype can be very powerful.

Chris, that Hawks line is down to 6. I think you really have something there. I like that play more by the second. I'm definately looking into adding that one now. GL tonight.

Gotta agree with Jaysvdubwhat...It's only game two/three of the season. It's a BIT early for letdown spots. I'd say cash in on the Raps and maybe the Wiz too!
Decent w/up Chris...just not buying that angle tonight.

Maybe you didnt see the focus in Bosh. After 3-0 start last year, the raptors are takin it game by game. After listen to The coach in triano. He is gonna keep his players focused at the task at hand. People think its a trap and making it harder than it needs to be. Toronto is a legit team and will show the world tonight that there the real shit and not have a drop off. raptors by 8+. But BOL

Listen. I really do beleive the Raptors are going to have a nice turnaround this year with additions they made this past off season. Players like Bellenelli, Wright were great low-key off season picks-ups. Then you have Hedo of course who can provide some punch. And I really think Bargnani is going to have massive breakout season and open some eyes across the league. And of course Bosh is always a factor.
You folks have to understand that this team(The Raptors) is made up of nine new players + three returnees. Teams don't just gel with a snap of a finger, it takes time. Sure they looked good against Cleveland the other night, but let's be honest here... was Cleveland playing the best basketball that night? No. Like Toronto, the Cavs are dealing with some changes and it's going to take time for them to mesh as a team as well.
Shit, I hope I'm wrong here and Toronto pound the Grizz. I'd gladly lose money to see the Raps take a win here. But the fact is that these sitiations have happened numerous times over the years in the NBA, and it usually always ends up being a let down.
Jaysvdubwhat, you made an interesting comment about players having to prove themselves. Well don't you think the same applies to Memphis? What, just because their a young/weak team they can play half-assed basketball? No. They are going to come out strong and play as hard as they can too. Mayo, Gay, Thabeet... these players have things to prove too. They might not have the skill/talent yet which leads to them being blown out from time to time, but don't confuse that with them not being competitive.
Oh by the way, if you liked Toronto last night at -4, you can take them at -2.5 right now.

I'm gonna be keeping an eye on the Mavericks/Lakers game for a possible 2nd Half bet. I can see the Mavericks winning this game outright so i'm hoping they are close, maybe even have the lead by halftime so I get a nice line.

Well the Mavericks have themselves a seven points lead here. I gotta roll with Mavs here. You can on count on people taking the Lakers -6 2nd Half just because they are the Lakers. People always Kobe and company to storm back and win the game, so isn't it convenient that the spread is set to -6?! All they have to do is win the game by 1 point. I don't buy it.
