This whole gay paranoia thing is so funny to me.
You are born predisposed to being gay or not. Ever wonder why gay sex is disgusting to you and not to a gay guy? Do you really think it is because he learned about it in 2nd grade and you didnt?
Its all so ridiculous. Why do you care who marries who? How do you have enough time in your day, or anger in you, to actually put energy in to fighting what 2 people can marry each other?
In 50 years it will all be scientifically proven that we are all born with a predisposition on a sliding scale of homosexuality to heterosexuality - and those who are alive will look back on current times and laugh the same way we laugh at people 100 years ago not understanding germ theory or DNA.
Teaching a kid about gay people doesnt make him gay, it makes him educated, better adjusted, more secure, and a better person.

I am amazed too.
In Florida, we have an ammendment up for vote in 2 weeks. Gay marraige is ALREADY ILLEGAL in Florida.
But thats not good enough for the rednecks down here.
They want a constitutional ammendment that says gay marraige is illegal so that gay people wont get domestic violence legal protection, wont be able to have hospital visit rights, wont have will and estate rights, and wont have any insurance rights.
Amazed is how I feel whenever I hear this shit. The fact that someone made it their life mission to get something like this on a ballot - and then the fact that it will probably pass because "we dont want person getting married down here" - leaves me in a state of amazement. If all of these morons put their energy, time, and money in to something productive imagine the possibiliities.

Agreed. . . it's not about what you're teaching them, it's when. They're going to learn about gay people sometime. Not only that, I hate censorship, and all that kind of shit. When your kid starts asking the questions, that's the time to tell him. People that "protect" their kids usually wind up with kids that go ape shit in college. Just answer the questions they ask, and it makes them a better person.
Also agree with van that it's pretty much a genetic thing as well. You're either gay or you're not. It's not because of anything else.
Is sending a kid to religious or private schools really a better alternative to teaching him there are different kinds of people out there? IMO, those schools teach conformity and do less for making you an individual, and who wants that?

I'd laugh, but it's really fucking sad. I can think of about a million things to do that is better than worrying about if some dude wants to marry another.

I respect your opinion VAN vut thats just not true. Thats just why YOU think they dont want it. But its not the truth. We can agree to disagree, I dont think youre an idiot or anything for thinking that but I just completely disagree. I, for one, have no problem with the "partner rights" or whatever they call it. I just have a problem with teaching a 2nd grader about it.
Yes Im paranoid!!!!! I would be crushed if my kid was gay. Would I still love my child? absolutely, but itd be a bitter pill to swallow for sure.
I think the main reason the south is so anti-gay is cuz of the bible, which is a whole other bullshit story onto itsself.
So if Im offending anyone I apologize. Im just not thrilled about all this and I wanted some feedback. I guess Im in the minority (or alone, lol) and thats fine. I agree with pretty much everything all of you have said in response to me. Its just a real sticky subject for me and others. I wish I could be as comfortable with it as you are and NO, its not ignorance thats making me feel this way. That seems to be the cop-out some of you use to just dismiss someone's opinion.

Youre good at putting words in people's mouth. Next time comment on what I said, not what you think Id say 10 years later. Also, Im about as bad of parent as you are a good poker player!!!!!

Sometimes its easier to prove your point by letting the people on the other side prove it for you. Perfect example quoted above.
ChanceP - in Florida, there is already a ban on gay marriage. This ammendment SPECIFICALLY denies those rights I listed above. It is the ONLY reason to pass such an ammendment. So there is really nothing to disagree with me about - if you disagree with me on the subject of the ammendment thats fine - but you cant disagree about the MOTIVATION of the ammendment because the agenda is clear (and not argued by the other side).
