I know, the first one did not turn out so well but a lot of bad things (including officiating) had to happen for the Clippers (who played their hearts out) to lose that game, and they all did. The team is cursed. Anyway, this one should hit. If you go back to the series between OKC and the Grizz from last year, and see how they lost that series, you'll know why I like them to close the deal tomorrow after faltering in Portland.

I dint like the last game by memphis, without conley the grizz have no one to guard billiard and this create trouble. The blazers won the last game with albridge playing a sub par game...doesn't that scare you?plus the add of afflalo is important and you're asking the grizz to cover what is the same line in game 2.The value is probably on the blazers now.

Yeah sorry BB I agree with More Geezer. The last game in Memphis the Blazers were given almost the same line without Afflalo out and Conley in. Don't get me wrong, I love this Grizzlies team but without Conley, Lillard was able to get his game back in game #4. I also don't see LMA having another terrible night. I think this game might be closer than what people expect. I also lean Hawks in the other game

As of now, I lean memphis. I think Conley being out is an issue for sure but I think udrih and calathes at home will play very well. LMA had a subpar game but so did Zbo and gasol. This sounds crazy but if Lillard scores, which is all he really does, I think memphis is ok with that. Lillard plays zero defense and he's never seen a shot he doesn't love. Let's remember, this game is in MEMPHIS, so no home crowd to get Portland going. I felt Portland got off to a very slow start last game and if that happens again, watch out. I think this game is close like the Houston game but as the fourth quarter progresses, I think memphis locks down. I really like the 7 footer, Leonard on Portland, he could be an issue if memphis doesn't close out the perimeter but when it's all said and done, the thing that got memphis here all year, defense, will be the deciding factor that closes out this series. Memphis knows that if they let Portland in on this series, it will go 7. I'll be looking at the line to see where the movement occurs but 12 hours out, I lean memphis. I expect them to get the ball down low to the bigs thus causing foul issues for Portland early on. Unfortunately, I just don't trust the bench of Portland to be able to carry the load like the spurs did on the road last nite. I'd be really surprised if Portland gets into the mid to late 90s tonite.....

Blazers bench was insane last game, or should I say Lenard and McCollum. Myers was 5 of 5 for 13 pouts the first half. Can't see him doing that in Memphis. McCollum was playing so good he closed out the game and hit a vital three, I also can't see tht happening again in Memphis. Aldridge is gonna have to step up and the blazers surely have to play fast tempo the whole game to stay close. Randolph while been good has not shot well, he will probably do that tonight. Like the Memphis pick.

Last year, Memphis was up in game 5 in the 4th at OKC, about to close it out, and they lose as Reggie Jackson hits some miracle shots. Then they come and lay an egg, lose, and lose Randolph for game 7.
This year they are about to close out the Blazers on the road and allow them to come back and win. Now they are in the same spot as last year. I doubt they allow the same thing to take place against a team whose best player is already making plans for free agency.

Sorry, the Reggie Jackson game was game 4, not 5. Regardless, Memphis had a chance to close out the Thunder at home, failed, then paid the price. If you think history repeats itself, take the Blazers. If you think the Grizz learned from that experience, take the Grizz.

there might be a correlation between ur write ups. the longer the write up, the more wrong ur pick is. this one looks short and sweet. hope u get on track.
i like portland to bring momentum to the first half to cover. might look for memph second half play if they are down

Wait, what? Doesn't the Law of National Embarrassment clearly state that Portland is 90% to win the series after the unlikely comeback in GM4?

Conley out hurts Griz offense...maybe more than defense as their flow is much better with him. That being said, this is a tale of location. Memphis plays MUCH better at home and Portland has struggled on the road. It really boils down to that since Memphis can't squander games on their home court. Expect a serious knuckling down on defense by the Griz at home to pull out a cover.

Thanks BB for doing most of the heavy lifting around here. I always enjoy your insight. I used to post occasionally in here, but that was before your time.
I got Memphis too. The only thing I fear is their ability to lay an egg. That game last year wasn't their only time. However, I've always seen Conley as their chief egg-layer. Also, those games had more pressure (games 6 or 7), and were against superior competition. Tonight's game is not. The only potential matchup concern tonight is Lillard. But for now I'm seeing Portland paying the price for having brought in Mo Williams as Lillard's mentor -- too many bullshit jump shots, not enough penetration. Even if it does somehow click in for Lillard tonight, Calathes's defence is not as bad as some perceive.
After that, I'd say the worry is C.J. He's improved tremendously as of late, but I think he will struggle tonight with the reception he's gonna get from the Memphis crowd.
As for L.A., well ... don't let the door hit you in the behind.

Thanks, junior. Good points. I think it's in everyone's best interest (Memphis, the NBA, Aldridge) that the series end tonight. If the series ends today, then we should get Dubs vs Grizz on saturday or sunday.

There's a good section in the below article (scroll way down just past the photo of Paul Pierce's trolling "King in the North" photo about Damian Lillard being a loser of these playoffs so far due to his crap defense.

5 units on the Grizz at -5
I dont think they faultered in Portland.
They simply sand bagged that game just like the Spurs did last season in game 4 in Portland. We all know the Spurs could have easily swept then beat them by 25+ last year in Portland. Same thing here.... loss of Conley in the series is irrevelant. They don't need Conley to destroy these scrubs. I'm kinda mad i over slept... gonna have to catch grizz live to bet them and obvioulsy thats gonna suck cuz i doubt that Portland even makes this within 6-8 points anytime tonight.
