I'm paraphrasing but he said that in this day and age, in order for a team to win a SB, they need to throw 40 times.
This is simply an absurd statement, and only twice since the turn of the century has the SB winner thrown 40 or more times (2012 and 2003).
Please do some homework before saying silly statements Dan. The nation is watching. You do.don't need to throw 40 times to win a SB. If anything, the numbers prove that the winners usually throw LESS than 40 times. This supports that you still need a good ground game, and it might in fact be DETRIMENTAL if you throw a lot because being a one dimensional offense is NOT conducive to winning a championship.

Then he should have said that instead of saying something completely inaccurate. He has one job to do. To provide some insight and analysis on the game. And he completely failed.
Also, the game is not dominated by passing. Passing has taken a bigger role in the game in the recent years, but the run is still very much a huge part of the game.

Passing is absolutely more prominent in today's game, but that's not the issue. The issue here is simply that Marino made an absurd statement. You don't have to throw 40 passes to win the SB. That's no less absurd than saying you need to pass for 300 yards to win it. It's just a stupid comment because it simply isn't true. That's all I'm saying.

Marino constantly makes inaccurate statements. At halftime he was saying how only two teams had come back from more than ten points down to win the super bowl...first stat they show second half is that NO team has come back from more than 10 to win the bowl.

marino always looks like he has taken too many concussions...
with that said I think the game is more geared towards passing, and I would say that over the course of the playoffs there will likely be one game where you will need to throw it 40 times... and perhaps teams that cannot do that will never have a chance...
