Why is this line so low- travel for Cal I guess. Maryland is absolutly awful- probably the worst in the ACC. They will need their best game to cover. Can see the line going up to 16 or more.

You guys do realize that this game will be played at noon... That means it's a 9 AM game for Cal traveling to the East Coast. You guys are reading into Cal's 66-3 win too much and Maryland's look-ahead loss at Middle Tennessee.
You don't think Maryland is psyched about playing a top 25 out of conference school in their house? You guys do also realize Cal is gonna have new QB/RB/WR on the road.
Just some food for thought before you guys blow your wallets. lol

shep... what Cal speed are you talking about? The speed that you got to evaluate against Washington State... do you got the 40 times? Maryland's defense has not been pathetic. It has been their offense.

BG,
Were you gambling two years ago when Cal went into Tennessee at noon and got smoked like 44-17? That was a noon game. Granted College Park is no Neyland Stadium atmosphere, it makes a difference. Did you see how the Bills dominated the Seahawks on Sunday? This theory is no secret.

I haven't posted in a while and did pretty well last year (didn't do my picks here but went 11-5). I am only 1-2 this year picking Texas Tech and losing on WVU (first loss for me on 3 football picks and 2 basketball picks on WVU) and Northwestern.
Onto the game..Silk, apples and oranges comparing that Tennessee team and that environment to Chase Field and this year's Terps. Cal has tons of speed and I will actually be attending this game. I like the way Cal controls the ball and the RBs do have speed to hit the holes and take it to the outside. The Terps also haven't seen this kind of defense so far this year. I know they are traveling and it is an earlier start but Tedford will have them ready. I was hoping for 10 points but if Cal stays close at the half, I think they blow it open in the 2nd half. Take the two touchdowns and roll with Cal.

What about the countless other times when this theory does not work? I think the Bills dominated simply because they are the better team this year. As for this game if anyone is willing to take the pts and the Terps they have not seen Cal play this season. Cal is for real and I would suggest taking this before the spread jumps to -17

well, first of all, there's only been 2 games so far this year... how many games do you want us to "throw out" when capping this one? second, the best game to judge this matchup is Cals 38-31 win against Mich St...

while the seahawks getting smashed by the bills helps to prove the west to east theory, the nfl is a totally different game then college..
and Mid Tenn St. is a better team then people realize.. the sun belt is coming up.. they almost always upset BCS conference teams a couple times a year (see Troy beating OSU and UL-Monroe beating Bama last year.. Ark. State beating TAMU this year)..
i also think its time for Cal to have a down game.. 2-0 ats so far, they're bound to not cover sometime within the next two-three weeks..

I agree that CAL -14 looks inviting. I have watched both Terps games this year. They dominated Deleware but just couldn't get points on the board. Against Middle Tenn St they looked like the JV playing the varsity. My concern is that the for the last four years the Terps have started slow and then come out of nowhere to beat a team they should not have. I have been burned too many times by the Terps playing to the level of competition (I guess I don't learn my lesson).
I think that CAL should cover, but I have to sit this one out for the above reasons. I think I can find better value on Saturday.

This is totally off the topic, but if you live in vegas and ever look at the parlay cards the spreads are usually spot on with the closing lines so if we could find someone who can see these cards early could be huge advantage on which way the line is going to move and how much the odds makers are trying to suck us to the wrong side before kickoff anyway just a thought

afterthought it's funny these are printed on monday come out wed. evening and still somehow the spreads are the same by game time unless your playing some teaser card. The only discrepinciey that I've seen move the wrong way on the board was last week with BYU. card at -6.5 books at -9.5 maybe something to keep an eye on in the future?

Cal is not as great as some of their press reads but Maryland is God-awful and I seriously doubt any of their players will really be up for this game. Cal has more at stake and easily covers.

very very true!
you may be right about Cal coming down to earth... but i'm looking at one team that has beaten Mich St 38-31 and Wash St 66-3... WSU is not good, but they are a BCS conf team, an interconference team that Cal had to beat (destroy) on the road, and i figure WSU is in the same range as Mid Tn St... and another team that lost to Middle Tenn St outright...
i could see taking Maryland if this line was up around 24, where it probably should be... but i got it under 14, and that to me is a bargain...
