I need Bhawksfan to come around and give his opinion on these trades. I personally dont mind the Saad one, still think the Jackets got the better end of the deal, but I'm not a fan of all of the Hjalmarsson trade. Murphy is barely a top 6 D in Zona. Good luck finding yourself in the Hawks top 6 for longer then a year or so.

I like the Saad trade, I think he is a more complete player than Panarin, which is needed now that Hossa is gone and it will balance the team once again. Finally someone that can play with Toews, he has been dealing with a lot of inconsistency & weak linemates (Panik/Garbutt/Schmaltz/Hossa). Musical chair of 4th liners, rookies, and an aging/injured vet. Kane will get his offense regardless of linemates as he did in the past, his regular season production might drop off slightly without Panarin but it will be better for the team in the big picture. Plus who knows, maybe DeBrincat can win a spot on that 2nd line and surprise everyone.
Hammer trade, I think Stan did a poor job here, I find it hard to believe that for an underrated D-Man that has such high trade value, this is all he got in return. All these teams that are desperate for D and he couldnt get a better deal than this?
Conor Murphy is tough/physical, which I guess he was looking for in the back end, I think he will do better with the Hawks by simply being on a better environment/team....but yeah, I think Hammer actually showed some bad signs in the 2nd half & playoffs, so I didnt mind him getting traded as much as before but I was hoping for a much better return. Apparently they are high on Dauphin's potential but I dont know much about that kid.
I am not sure if Stan is done though, I think he will be making more moves, dont see Kruger staying with the team...I think he is trying to trade Anisimov as well but the NMC is getting in the way, if he could pull that off for a Galchenyuk...then he will go after Jumbo Joe. They have the cap space to make things interesting now because of the Hossa situation.

Yeah you pretty much hit it on the head on how I feel about these trades as well. Pretty dissappointed in the value we got back for Hjammer, I saw him as a top 20 D man in the league and one of the best defensive defenseman. I think when we made these trades we were looking into the future and figured we would not be able to afford Panarin or Hjammer once their contracts ended in 2 years as they will be asking for more money. Also Saad's contract is 3 years compared to Panarin's being two. Hjammers contract is also only 2 more years and Connor Murphy's is five. If Connor Murphy turns out to do really well for the Hawks then this was a good trade but in my opinion we took a big risk if he doesn't end up fitting in on our top 4 D. Our D was already questionable last year and we can't just rely on Keith skating 40 minutes a game. Forsberg will hopefully feel Darlings spot as our backup goalie and I've heard good things about him. This has been a crazy week as a Hawks fan ....
