Dos Santos is a wrecking ball, he is undefeated in the UFC at 9 - 0 and has finished 6 of those wins by way of strikes. There is not much that Dos Santos does wrong. Actually off the top of my head I can’t think of anything. His wrestling is very un-proven but I think we’ll finally get a chance to see it inaction on the 29th. The only Men to make it to a decision inside the UFC with Dos Santos are Shane Carwin (who still got his faced destroyed) and the iron jawed Roy Nelson. Dos Santos also sports a legitimate brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…which we never get the chance to see as Dos Santos prefers to stand and bang, does the Brazilian have any offensive wrestling at all? I know he can out strike almost any heavyweight in the world but I’d like to see him mix it up a bit and throw in some take-downs and ground and pound to keep his opponents guessing. For now everything is working but his lack of diversity in his over-all game might become a weakness fighters may look to exploit until he shows he can hang on the ground and get fight through adversity.
Velasquez
Facts
30 year old Mexican American
6’1 with 77” reach
Fights out of American Kickboxing Academy
Wrestled at the NCAA Division 1 level
Brown belt in Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu
One of the best wrestlers in the division
Excellent top control and ground & pound
Velasquez is the former heavyweight champ and is 9 – 1 in the UFC, his only loss is by KO to Junior Dos Santos. Velasquez possess fast and heavy hands, winning 9 out of 10 by way of knockout. He also some of the best wrestling in the division and trains with Daniel Cormier who will take over the title of the best heavyweight wrestler when he moves over to the UFC. Cain has a suspect chin which Dos Santos will surely being trying to test for a second time while Cain looks for his openings to bring this to the mat.
Prediction – Big difference in this fight is Cain won't come out leg kicking, he apparently had some inside information that Dos Santos was fighting on a bum knee in their last fight. I'm not trying to make excuses for Cain getting knocked the darn out auto but it would explain him throwing 3 - 4 leg kicks in succession at the start of the fight to the same knee of Dos Santos. The X factor is we've seen little to no take-down defense from Junior in the octagon and save for their first meeting (where Cain did not look to clinch or shoot once) Dos Santos has never faced a good wrestler, let alone the best one in the heavyweight division (no Carwin is NOT a good wrestler). This one is close and I would not be surprised to see Dos Santos get the KO again but I’m going to take Cain via submission in the 4th.
