Also leader in backboards broken - a record that will never be broken again since the NBA reinforced their backboards in the 90's to prevent them from being shattered solely because of Shaq.
Never been a huge Shaq fan - I hope he doesn't go be a cop full-time now haha. But what he brought to the game was priceless. He changed the game in good and bad way, but nonetheless - he was a HUGE impact on the league and its been sad to see him decline since Phoenix. Especially since he was getting almost a minimum veteran salary in Boston - would have much preferred him won a championship with the guys in Boston than Lebron James in Cleveland.
I'm sure the "Shaq Affairs" will continue after basketball though - something we can all look forward to.

Over the years they have made the backboards a lot stronger, if Shaq played in the 70's he would have broken a lot more backboards. You are right those records will not be broken.

Maybe he will pull a "Brett Farve" and come back in the preseason.
I found these comments by Shaq today to be very interesting:
"I really thought about coming back but this Achilles is very damaged and, if I had it done, the recovery would be so long, we'd have the same outcome as this last year - everyone sitting around and waiting for me," O'Neal said.
"I didn't want to let people down two years in a row. I didn't want to hold Boston hostage again. "I'm letting everybody know now so the organization can try to get younger talent."

I for one am glad the Shaqster is calling it a career because he didn't do one single thing to improve the Celtics this season. That being said I am a big Shaq fan because I love his personality and wit. I can already see him and Barkley having a TNT hotdog eating contest! I also must say with Shaq retiring man do I feel old!! At least Shaq is walking away from the game and can still walk and hopefully he has good financial people working for him. Good luck to Shaq in his future endeavors....
BTW little Shaq "Big Baby' Glen Davis is currently under the care of a professional trainer who my good friend from Ma went to high school with. It is going top be interesting to see 'Big Baby" at the beginning of next season.
