Nevada football bettors once again set the state record for the most money wagered on football in a month, betting $342.7 million on NFL and college football in October, shattering September 2013's record of $337 million and the previous record of $335.9 million set in November 2012.

Silver State sportsbooks won $18.093 million on that massive football handle with a win percentage (hold) of 5.28 percent, according to the Nevada State Gaming Control Board.

After opening the football season with record handles in September, earning $27.9 million in the first month of the schedule, books continued to win big on football in October – a 390 percent increase from 2012 when sportsbooks lost $6.2 million on football in October. Casinos on the Las Vegas Strip earned $6.15 million on football in October with a hold of 3.52 percent.

October also brought the end of the baseball season, in which Nevada books won $4.9 million on the MLB playoffs. That gave them a season total of $35.4 million (April-October) on MLB. October's baseball earnings are down from 2012 when books won $8.65 million on the MLB postseason in October.

The beginning of the basketball season was also a winner for Nevada casinos, earning $1.7 million in October. The NBA schedule kicked off on October 29, however, preseason action started October 5.

Parlay cards scored a major win for Nevada books, thanks in large part to football, earning almost $4.5 million in October. Books won $4.98 on parlay cards in September after earning only $606,000 on them in August.

The category “other sports”, which includes hockey, boxing, MMA, auto racing, tennis and golf , brought just over $1 million to Nevada books in October after a big September in which they earned $2.47 million on “other sports”.

Overall, Nevada sportsbooks won more than $30.3 million in October, a small decrease from the $39.6 million earned in September but a massive change from the $6.7 million won in October 2012.

Nevada casinos' total gaming win in October was $954,331,806 – a 2.58 percent decrease from the $979,596,839 won in October 2012.
