Nets fire head coach Johnson after December slide

Dec 27, 2012 |
The Brooklyn Nets have fired head coach Avery Johnson in the midst of the 3-10 SU slide.

Johnson, who was in the final year of his contract, led Brooklyn to a quick 11-4 start, going 10-3-2 ATS. However, the Nets have been mired in a nasty skid since the beginning of December and have posted just a 2-11 ATS mark in that span.

Brooklyn is schedule to host the Charlotte Bobcats Friday night. The Nets are suggested 10.5-point home favorites, according to Nevada-based odds service The Sports Club. Brooklyn is also dealing with injuries to PG Deron Williams (wrist) and forward Kris Humphries (abdominal). Williams is probable for Friday.

According to ESPN, P.J. Carlesimo will serve as Brooklyn's interim head coach for now.

The Nets are priced at +3,500 to win the NBA Championship this season.
