Manziel out first half vs. Rice, Heisman odds move

Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel may have trouble throwing the ball against Rice this Saturday after suffering a slap on the wrist from the NCAA Wednesday.

Manziel has been suspended for the first half of the Aggies’ season opener against the Owls after being questioned by the NCAA for six hours for allegedly accepting money for autographs in January.

Most sportsbooks kept the Aggies' Week 1 odds off the board, however, some adventurous markets were offering Texas A&M at -27.5. According to Peter Childs, an oddsmaker with – which didn’t have the Week 1 game on the board - Texas A&M opened at -26 hosting Rice this weekend and was bet up to -27. The total opened at 65 points.

Texas A&M's Week 1 odds aren't the only prices on the move. took a rush of action on "Johnny Football" to win his second straight Heisman Trophy, moving his odds from +1,200 to +600 just hours after his suspension was announced. He's behind only Ohio State's Braxton Miller (+300) and South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney (+500).

Manziel, the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, is estimated be worth at least 10 points to the Aggies’ pointspreads, according to Las Vegas oddsmaker Peter Korner.

The Aggies opened with a season win total of 9.5 and were priced at +700 to win the SEC Championship. Texas A&M is at +1,200 to win the BCS Championship.
