Fantastic finish to EPL season makes for super Sunday

May 11, 2012 |
The English Premier League season is set for a fantastic finish Sunday with the league title, Champions League qualification, and the dreaded threat of relegation hanging in the balance.

Manchester City can win its first EPL title in 44 years with a victory over Queens Park Rangers Sunday. However, if City falters and draws or loses to QPR, and Manchester United wins their final game with Sunderland, United would win their 20th EPL title. The rivals are locked in the table with 86 points, but Man City holds a 63-55 edge in goal difference.

Oddsmakers have Manchester City set as -900 favorites to win the EPL title and -700 chalk to knock off QPR Sunday. United are at +500 to squeak out a league championship and are -225 favorites versus Sunderland.

Queens Park Rangers are not only looking to play the role of spoilers versus City but are also fighting for their EPL lives. They’re priced at +200 to suffer relegation, taking a 10-20-7 (37 points) record into Sunday.

Bolton, at 10-22-5 (35 points), are priced at -200 to be demoted and need a win over Stoke to avoid a sticky financial situation with contracts expiring this summer. Oddmakers have the Wanderers priced at +190 versus Stoke (+140), with a draw at +230.

Also on the line in the EPL Sunday are the third and fourth-place positions in the table and the shot at the Champions League title next term. Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle are all in the running, with Arsenal in third with 67 points – one ahead of Tottenham and two ahead of Newcastle.

The Gunners are -150 favorites over West Brom Sunday and would like to hang on to third place in case Chelsea defeats Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on May 19 and secures an automatic bid into the next term.

Tottenham are -250 favorites over Fulham and Newcastle is priced at +230 to upset Everton (+120) Sunday.
