The fate of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston – and FSU’s BCS Championship hopes - will likely be decided Thursday afternoon when the prosecutor investigating the sexual assault allegations against the Heisman frontrunner reveals the findings at a 2 p.m. ET press conference.
Sportsbooks aren’t taking any chances with the Seminoles’ odds for this weekend’s ACC title game, the BCS futures or Winston’s Heisman odds, which currently have him as a heavy -2,000 favorite. Those wagers have either been taken off the board or will be later this afternoon.
“We still have the game up but will close it, the BCS odds to win and the Heisman odds at about 1 p.m. ET, a good hour before the press conference,” Peter Childs of Sportsbook.ag tells Covers.”From everything I’ve been reading, speculation is that he won’t be charged.”
Winston has led Florida State to a perfect 12-0 record and to the top spot in the BCS rankings, passing for 3,490 yards and 35 touchdowns. He is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault of a Tallahassee woman in December 2012. Media sources are speculating that calling a press conference, instead of issuing a warrant for Winston’s arrest, indicates that the ACC Player of the Year will not be charged.
The Seminoles are 29-point home favorites against Duke in the conference title game Saturday and are currently priced as -300 favorites to win the BCS Championship. They are estimated 10-point favorites over Ohio State in the projected national title matchup.
