Carlos Gomez’s incredible over-the-wall grab not only stole a home run from Cincinnati Reds slugger Joey Votto, giving the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-3 win Monday, but it also robbed one Covers Community member of $25,000.

Covers user redrum42, who had extended his Streak Survivor run to 20 correct picks, took the Reds (-128) over the Brewers at Miller Park Monday night. One more correct selection would have given redrum42 $25,000 and put him on track for 25 straight wins and the $100,000 grand prize.

Cincinnati was behind 4-3 with two outs in the top of the ninth when Votto launched a 2-2 pitch to deep center field. Gomez tracked the ball to the wall, leaped and pulled the ball back over the fence to seal the win for Milwaukee, handing redrum42 and other Reds backers one of the worst beats we’ve seen this summer.

While losing any bet in that fashion is tough to swallow, redrum42 did put together an incredible run in Streak Survivor, earning $1,000 cash and Covers Gear for his handicapping expertise. And he’s not the only Streak Survivor contestant making a run at the $25,000. Covers user kasnut1 is sitting at 19 correct plays – just two wins away from the $25K.
