Kentucky Derby betting: Oxbow, Normandy Invasion drawing action

May 4, 2013 |
It’s a rainy day at Churchill Downs making for a soggy running of the 139th Kentucky Derby. Tracks conditions like this can make any horse a live long shot to win, and bettors have seen just that with prices on the favorites climbing. We talk to sportsbooks to see which horses are drawing the most action as the 6:24 post draws near.

Oxbow and Normandy Invasion took a lot of early money and continue to be a popular pick. Some markets have watched Oxbow drop from +3,000 to +1,000 and have the No. 2 horse as low as +700 as of Saturday afternoon. Normandy Invasion has also moved up the board from +1,200 to as low as +400 in the last few weeks.

“Normandy Invasion is seeing both futures and heavy matchup action with bettors, pitting the talented horse versus several other horses in the field,” an oddsmaker for told Covers.

This morning, money showed on Javas War (+1,600) and Revolutionary (+800) as well as Lines of Battle, who has been trimmed from +2,500 to +1,200 as of Saturday afternoon.

“Our biggest liability is on the Irish horse Lines of Battle,” Russ Candler of told Covers. “Our UK and Irish punters have jumped on the O’Brien/Moore bandwagon.”

Other horses with odds on the move include overall favorites Verrazano – going from +300 to +800 – Orb – going from +300 to +650 – and Goldencents – going from +350 to +650.
