Florida State starting quarterback and Hiesman Trophy favorite Jameis Winston is being investigated by police in an ongoing sexual assault case in Tallahassee according to several reports from various media outlets.
The redshirt freshman denies any wrongdoing in an alleged assault that happened last December 7. Sportsbook.com had Winston listed as the overwhelming Heisman favorite at 1-5 odds as recently as last Friday, but those odds have since been taken off the board.
Foxsports.com reports Winston's attorney Tim Jansen says he was told by Tallahassee police in February the case had been closed. However, a department spokesman told Foxsports.com the case remains open.
Florida State made a statement Wednesday night saying there is no change in Winston's status, meaning he'll play Saturday when the Seminoles host Syracuse as 37.5-point favorites.
Winston has 2,661 yards, 26 touchdowns, 3 rushing touchdowns and just 7 interceptions.
