Chargers to win Super Bowl, if Eagles' opener trend continues

Apr 18, 2013 |
San Diego Chargers fans might as well book a ticket to New Jersey for February 2 and while they’re at it, throw a couple bucks down on the Bolts at 40-1 to win Super Bowl XLVIII.

Why should San Diego faithful be so sure that they’re going to win the Big Game? Because the Chargers play in the Philadelphia Eagles’ home opener in Week 2 of the newly released 2013 NFL schedule. That’s why.

The last four teams to feature in the Eagles’ home opener – Baltimore, New York, Green Bay and New Orleans - have gone on to win the Super Bowl.

Last year, the Ravens helped “Iggles” fans ring in the new season by losing 24-23 to Philadelphia in Week 2. Flash forward about six months and Baltimore was hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans.

The Eagles opened their home schedule against the Giants, losing 29-16 in Week 3 of the 2011 campaign. They fell 27-20 at home to the Packers during Week 1 in 2010 and were trounced 48-22 by the Saints in front of their fans in Week 3 of the 2009 season. In fact, Philadelphia is 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS in its last four home openers.

And for you Eagles fans hoping the opening day blessing finally rubs off on Philly, oddsmakers have your beloved team priced at 50-1 to win the Super Bowl.
