Moneyball: Athletics over improves to 23-5 on the season

Apr 28, 2013 |
The Oakland Athletics over improved to 23-5 on Tuesday after The A's defeated the Los Angeles Angels 10-6.
Any $100 bettor would be up $1,691.40 if they picked the over in each of Oakland's 28 games.

The A's are first in baseball in runs scored (158, 5.6 per game), third in hits (250, 8.9 per game) and fourth in OPS (.763).

Combine this with a pitching staff with the 25th-ranked ERA (4.31) and the 22nd-ranked opponent batting average (.260) and you have a lot of high scoring games.

The A's were without outfielders Coco Crisp and Chris Young for the game Tuesday night. Both left Monday's 19 inning marathon versus the Angels with injuries, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Crisp is hitting .283 with five home runs, 12 RBI and eight stolen bases. Young is hitting .172 with four home runs and 15 RBI.

The series with the Angles continues Wednesday.

Tommy Milone will take the hill for the Athletics on Wednesday against the Angels' C.J. Wilson. Milone is 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA, with a 4-1 O/U record. Wilson is 2-0 with a 4.30 ERA in five starts.

Oakland is -108 and the total is set at 8.5.
