Seattle Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Irvin was a huge part of a Seattle defense that held opponents to a league-low 15.3 points per game last season and will miss the team’s opening four games against Carolina, San Francisco, Jacksonville and Houston.
The second-year player out of West Virginia will, however, be eligible to play in all of the Seahawks’ preseason games.
Irvin collected eight sacks as a rookie last season and was a feared pass rusher in the NFC.
The Seahawks are 8/1 to win the Super Bowl this year and the Atlantis Casino has set Seattle’s season win total at 11.
The LVH SuperBook has listed the Seahawks as early 3.5-point favorites over the Panthers in Week 1.
Irvin is the sixth Seattle player to test positive for performance-enhancing drugs since 2011.
