Where the action is: Sharp money sides with Spurs

May 16, 2013 |
Two teams have already advanced to their respective NBA conference finals. Two more are looking to join them Thursday night. The Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs try to punch their tickets versus the Knicks and Warriors. We talk to online sportsbooks about the betting action and where the odds could end up by tipoff:

Indiana Pacers at New York Knicks – Open: -4, Move: -5

Early money on New York bumped this spread up a full point but since the move, NBA bettors have about as much respect for the Knicks as Rihanna does for J.R Smith. According to Michael Stewart of CarbonSports.ag, about 74 percent of wagers on are the Pacers.

“It looks like the betting public has written off the Knicks for the year as the majority of the action is on the Pacers to close out the series,” Stewart told Covers.

As for the total for this Game 5 showdown, books opened at 179 points and have stayed relatively still despite a trend toward the over. Indiana and New York have produced a 1-2-1 over/under mark in this series.

San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors – Open: +1, Move: +1.5

Sharp money jumped on the Spurs as short road favorites and has pushed this spread as high as Golden State +2 at some markets. Action is beginning to come on the home side. The Warriors have been the betting darlings early in the postseason and are 4-1 ATS as hosts this postseason.

“Most of the money is coming for the home team,” says Russ Candler of UWin.com. “But I’m not sure they’ll be enough support for us to cut the spread by half a point. We’ll happily take on Steph Curry and his bum ankle.”

The total for Game 6 opened at 195.5 and is down as low as 194.5, with a slight 56 percent lean toward the under, according to CarbonSports.ag. San Antonio and Golden State have gone 2-3 over/under with Game 5 topping the 195-point total.
