Euro 2012: Odds dropping as market respects Portugal vs. Germany

Jun 9, 2012 |
The second day of Euro 2012 is highlighted by one of the most anticipated matches since the groups were drawn – Germany versus Portugal.

We talked with Aron Wattleworth from about the action coming in on this game and what other wagers bettors are flocking to.

Germany (+120) vs. Portugal (+250) – Draw (+230)

According to Wattleworth there has been a steady stream of action on Germany since opening, but a recent flood of money on Portugal has moved the odds from Germany -120, Draw +240, Portugal +350 to their current standing.

Wattleworth, who says they are receiving 10 times more money on Germany than Portugal, expects a lot more action to come in on this match once the first game of the day – Netherlands (-138) vs. Denmark (+450) – kick off at 12 p.m. ET.

“As is often the case during these tourneys, the later match really heats up once the early one is done. Folks either playing wins or chasing losses,” Wattleworth told Covers. “The action will continue on Germany, but the market has moved to Portugal, who deserve the respect in the market.”

The prop market for this high-profile match has also taken some serious money, especially on first goal scorer. Germany’s Mario Gomez and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, both priced at +450, are the favorite choice.

The correct score prop is also taking in some significant action, with 2-1 Germany (+800) receiving the majority of those bets, followed by Germany 2-0 (+900) and Germany 3-1 (+1,300).
