If the Boston Celtics are going to win at least one game in the Eastern Conference finals, NBA bettors believe Game 3 is the spot.
The Celtics opened as 1.5-point home favorites against the Miami Heat Friday, down 2-0 in the conference championship. Action on the home side has moved the spread to -2.5.
“I don’t know if you would call it surprising or not, but we’ve taken a lot of money on the Celtics,” Mike Colbert, sportsbooks director for Cantor Gaming, told Covers.
According to Colbert, Boston has been the more popular side bet while moneyline players are expecting the Heat to grab a commanding 3-0 series lead Friday night. Miami is priced around +120 to win outright in Game 3.
Following Miami’s 115-111 overtime win in Game 2, sportsbooks released their adjusted Eastern Conference series market odds. Miami to win the series 4-1 is the favorite prop, priced at +190. Miami to sweep is set at +300, and Miami in six games is +400.
“All our books have been very big on the Heat all season,” says Colbert. “But if Boston is going to win, this seems like their only shot of getting one.”
The total for Game 3 opened at 179 points and has since been bet up to 180.5. Colbert says the split is relatively even, with a bit more money trickling in on the over. The Heat and Celtics have gone 1-1 over/under to open the series.
