Where the action is: Sharp money on Warriors

May 2, 2013 |
There are only two NBA games on the go Thursday night but both contests have huge consequences, with the Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets facing elimination on the road. We talk to sportsbooks both online and in Nevada to get the inside scoop on betting trends and incoming action before tonight’s tipoffs.

Denver Nuggets at Golden State Warriors – Open: +1.5, Move: -1.5

Both sharps and public bettors are taking the Warriors at home in Game 6. Golden State opened as a home underdog but has jumped the fence and currently sits as a slight home favorite, hoping to knock off the Nuggets Thursday.

In Reno, the Warriors have been one of the most popular plays during the NBA playoffs due to the close proximity of the Bay Area.

“We have continued to see Warriors money in this series,” Steve Mikkelson, sportsbook manager at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino, told Covers. “Even when there is a money move on Denver, it just balances out the action more than anything.”

Both Mikkelson and Stewart could see this spread climbing as high as -2.5 by the 10:30 p.m. ET gametime. The total, which sits at 211 points, could also climb before tipoff with more than 70 percent of wagers coming in on the over.

“We are leaning slightly toward the over because (the public) likes to bet and parlay the Warriors and the over,” says Mikkelson.
