Covers.com is a website devoted to bettors, particularly sports bettors. So you’d think our most-viewed story would be on the day of the Super Bowl or first weekend of March Madness.
You would be wrong.
Last year, we thought it’d be fun to write a little article about odds to win the Miss Universe contest.
We jokingly tried to handicap the thing and show some pictures of our favorite ladies in the field. Little did we know the article would go bananas and become our biggest page view-getter ever.
That’s the story behind this story. Now let’s give the people what they want. Here’s a snapshot of the favorites in this Monday’s Miss Universe contest. Odds provided by SportsInteraction.com. Miss USA: Alyssa Campanella +550
The United States lost its triple-A credit rating but at least it still has a surplus of hotties. Alyssa Campanella is a natural redhead and a natural knockout.
She’s All-American too with beauty pageant wins on the East and West Coasts. She was the runaway favorite to win Miss USA and oddsmakers have her as chalk to win Monday night.
Don’t forget, the odds-on favorite last year, Miss Mexico, walked away with the tiara. Miss China: Luo Zilin +800
I guess you could say Luo Zilin is a one in a billion beauty. You know, because a lot of people live in China. You come for the sexy pictures but you leave because of the terrible jokes.
Getting back to the handicap aspect, the IOC gave China the 2008 Summer Olympics. Maybe “The Donald” will see a fiscal benefit to handing Luo the win. Miss Australia: Scherri-Lee Biggs +900
I love bikini pics as much as the next guy but it’s the photo on the left that caught my attention. It looks like she’s holding up her phone to send me a saucy little snapshot. OK, not me, but that’s the way I imagine it.
She looks great in the swimsuit too but I get nervous when I picture myself jumping her. That wicker chair looks too fragile to support my fat ass. Miss Venezuela: Vanessa Gonçalves +1200
You can never dismiss Brazil in the FIFA World Cup and you can never overlook Venezuela in the Miss Universe beauty pageant.
The South American country is second only to the United States in Miss Universe winners with six in the competition’s 60-year existence.
My wife keeps telling me Gonçalves has hair extensions in the picture left. And I care because…? Miss Ukraine: Olesya Stefanko +1200
Okay, the oddsmakers must be looking at different pictures than I am because Stefanko is not cutting it here.
Look, I’m sure she’d be the hottest girl in the local tavern but this is Miss Universe. I don’t know about you guys but I don’t want my Miss Universe to have bushier eyebrows than 1980s Tom Selleck.
This is weak Ukraine. Step up your game. Miss Angola: Leila Lopes +1600
Yup, I just fell back in love with bikinis. Yowzers. Lopes is a bit older (25) than most of the competition but she has a lot going for her. Like the way she fits in that two-piece suit. Miss Sweden: Ronnia Fornstedt +1800
Sweden is considered a nation devoid of ugly people. I mean Elin Nordegren was a full-time nanny and just did the modeling thing on the side. So we can’t handicap a Miss Universe contest without talking about Sweden. Miss Brazil: Priscila Machado +1400
The contest is being held in Brazil which gives Prisila the home-field advantage. Seems like oddsmakers are just clueing in because Machado’s odds went from +2500 down to +1400 just this week.
Or maybe she doesn’t have the support of her nation. Wikipedia tells me Machado was booed by the viewing audience after she was crowned Miss Brazil. The rumor is the locals didn’t like that she did a topless photo shoot. I, on the other hand, applaud her.
