NFL power rankings: Week 2

Since you’re reading this, I guess that you made it out of Week 1 alive and presumably unharmed. Not like Brady, or Young, or the young Brodie Croyle - you’re one of the lucky ones.

Now, we all know that one week doesn’t make a season, but it really was quite the week. You just don’t see big AFC heavyweights hit the mat like they did last Sunday very often, leaving Week 2 wide open to interpretation.

I’m not ready to start calling for equal status for the NFC, but its top teams are a whole lot closer to the AFC’s top clubs than we’ve seen in a long time. So maybe change is in the air, or at least looming off on the horizon. One thing’s for sure: there’s a different landscape to Week 2’s rankings. Check it out here.

nguyenhd, This is a power ranking, not the AP poll. A team that is clearly better than another shouldn't be ranked below them just because of a head-to-head loss. One game doesn't count for that much. Should Stanford have passed USC in power ranking after their win? For that same reason no team should move 7, 8, or 9 spots in a ranking of 32 teams based on 1 game, as numerous teams do in this ranking. Do the Bears and Panthers deserve to pass 25% of the teams in the league because of one upset? Do the Skins drop below 25% because of 1 loss to Super bowl champs? If so the original rankings were a sham.

I think with Brady down that Pittsburg deserves a serious look.I know how they did last year but that front line was bad.If the front line is what it's supposed to be and they protect Ben,watch out.My Steelers will roll.Don't forget they do have the toughest schedule on paper.

dbear, Ravens were not just dominant "D" years ago, but every year for the latter part of this decade. They have finished in top 6 in overall "D" last 5 years in a row, including #6 last year (despite a lot of time on field) and #1 in '06. How soon we forget. Not likely a playoff team, but only because of super nasty schedule. With the best defensive front 7 in the history of the game, and the strongest home field in the NFL (31-10 L41), they are no #31. They will win a few games.

The Ravens at 31? Sure they played the hapless Bengals, but the defense looked like the dominant bunch of years ago. That alone will allow them to compete on a weekly basis. To be sure, good QB play is vital to the sucess of a team. The QB play of many of the pre-season AFC favorites (INDY, NE, SD, JAX) left much to be desired. The lack of respect for the Ravens may stem from the ongoing opinion that their rookie QB cannot play at this level. His performance was solid and worthy of praise. The Ravens won their Super Bowl with a powerful defense and an offense that did what was necessary. I'm not saying the Ravens belong in the Super Bowl hunt, but they do deserve a ranking higher than what they received.

Wow... Just went take a look and could not believed that Jax is at 5 (0-1) when Filly (1-0) is at 6. The bad thing is who ever beat Jax last week could not be found at no. 4. Guess when they took advance calculus for grad school, they was using an abacus instead of a calculator. With analysis like this, the quarter that i used for head for home and tail for visistor have a better accuracy than this. Bad analysis is one thing but stupid analysis deserve something else. I'm outta here.

LOL... Well, he betting his house, family and the dog on the next Pitts game. I got to agree that Pitts is definately not numero uno. Look at last year play off and wonder why no one see how NE will not win the SB. 1 NE vs 2 Manning in the play off vs 3 NFC East team that made it to the play off. Number dont lies, but people will. Wonder what Fox have to say who is no 1.
