Nebraska guard McCray dismissed for violating team rules

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Sophomore guard Joe McCray was dismissed from Nebraska`s basketball team on Wednesday for violating team rules.

Coach Barry Collier`s decision came six days after McCray was suspended indefinitely from the team. Collier has refused to say which rules were broken.

``Joe is free to pursue his academic and athletic careers elsewhere, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors,`` Collier said.

McCray had been disciplined before this season. He missed one start and half of another game, said Jerry Trickie, a spokesman for the university`s athletic department.

Before he was suspended last week, McCray played in 18 games for the Cornhuskers this season, averaging 9.8 points and 3.7 rebounds.

He played in 28 games as a freshman, averaging 15.5 points and five rebounds.

Since McCray was suspended, Nebraska (14-6, 4-3 Big 12) has beaten Missouri and Oklahoma State.

Sportsbetting.com has Nebraska listed at +100000 to win the National Championship this season.

Scherzer always had enormous talent and now he's figured out how to pitch and not just be a hard thrower. He's 3-1 with a 1.25 ERA during his past seven outings. He held Minnesota to one run in nine inn...
