Report: Free agent Paul Pierce heading to Wizards
Free agent forward Paul Pierce has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the Washington Wizards, according to ESPN's Marc Stein and several other media outlets.
Stein tweeted late Saturday night that Pierce, who played last season with the Brooklyn Nets, will join the Wizards as a mid-level exception, with Pierce having a player option for the second year of the deal.
NBA.com reported that Pierce will receive the full mid-level exception for $5 million per season, with an opt out after the first season.
Pierce, previously a stalwart with the Boston Celtics for several seasons, was traded to the Nets during the 2013 draft along with Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry for several draft picks.
Pierce will likely fill the void left when Trevor Ariza signed with the Houston Rockets, while Martel Webster will likely be out several more months following back surgery.
