Thunder make push for Gasol
The Oklahoma City Thunder are making a strong bid to lure free-agent center Pau Gasol.
Thunder stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook traveled to Los Angeles on Wednesday to talk with Gasol. Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti also spoke with Gasol on the phone, according to ESPN.com.
The Thunder and the Chicago Bulls appear to be among the top contenders for Gasol. The Bulls plan to meet with him on Thursday in Los Angeles, ESPN.com reported.
Oklahoma City could be constrained by salary-cap restrictions that would allow for an offer to Gasol of about $5 million per season.
The San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks are the other teams that appear to be in the mix for Gasol, but both teams would not be able to offer him a contract as lucrative as some other franchises. As for the Lakers, general manager Mitch Kupchak met with Gasol and he thinks they have a shot to retain the 7-footer.
The 33-year-old Gasol averaged 17.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game last season for the Lakers.
Reports indicated the Thunder are also interested in shooting guard Mike Miller of the Memphis Grizzlies.
