Gordon on sideline for Browns' minicamp

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon did not practice Wednesday and will not practice Thursday when the team wraps up minicamp.

Head coach Mike Pettine said Gordon has "a ding" and that holding him from practice has nothing to do with a possible suspension he is facing for reportedly testing positive for marijuana.

One day earlier, Pettine went on a Cleveland radio station and called Gordon out for not hustling all the time. Specifically, Pettine would like to see Gordon get back to the huddle quicker when a play ends.

"It is something we've talked about and from what I understand he's made some improvement, but it is a work in progress," Pettine said on 92.3 The Fan. "I'm a big believer in quality of reps versus quantity of reps. If I'm a player and I know that I'm going to be out there for 40 full-speed team snaps I may have a tendency to pace myself. There still needs to be improvement there but we're aware of it."

Pettine also said he is anxious to know what the league has in store for Gordon. News of the failed test broke on May 9 before the second day of the draft.

"There's certainly a level of frustration because we've known the news for so long," Pettine said. "It's just a holding pattern and I understand that the league has a process that they have to go through and there are other things that they're dealing with and we respect that. But at the same time it is difficult because it really will affect our preparation for the season. ... We're prepared for all of the eventualities, but the waiting is difficult."

Gordon led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards last year.
