Orioles sign Nelson Cruz, futures lower slightly

The Baltimore Orioles have signed free agent Nelson Cruz to a one-year, $8 million contract.

Cruz, who has spent the previous eight seasons with the Texas Rangers, served a 50-game suspension for his role in the Biogenesis scandal last season.

The Orioles add a power hitter into their DH spot and futures odds figure to be adjusted slightly.

"I like the move for the Orioles," says Steve Mikkelson, sportsbook manager of the Atlantis. "Cruz is mostly a one dimensional player, so plugging him in as a DH will be a nice addition for the Orioles. Adding in the signing of Ubaldo Jimenez, we are now at 25/1 on the O’s to win the World Series. We have not posted division odds as of yet."
