MVP Ford leads South to Senior Bowl win
Auburn defensive end Dee Ford won Senior Bowl MVP honors with two sacks in the South's 20-10 victory over the North on Saturday in Mobile, Ala.
Quarterbacks Derek Carr of Fresno State and David Fales of San Jose State each threw a touchdown pass for the South, but Ford capped a dominant week in practice and the game. He also batted down a pass by Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas deep in North territory in the first half.
Auburn cornerback Chris Davis added an interception for the South. Davis was the hero of the Iron Bowl game in November when he returned Alabama's failed field goal attempt for the winning touchdown on the final play.
Named the South's Most Outstanding Player was Alabama wide receiver Kevin Norwood, who caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Fales.
Carr threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Colorado State tight end Crockett Gillmore on the South's opening drive and was 7 of 12 for 45 yards in the game.
Auburn's Cody Parkey kicked 50- and 39-yard field goals for the South.
Wisconsin running back James White was named the North's Most Outstanding Player after scoring on a 1-yard run with 6:04 remaining in the game. He finished with 62 yards on 11 carries.
It was not the greatest day for quarterbacks, who combined to throw five interceptions.
Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo, a late sub for Alabama's AJ McCarron, was 6-of-11 passing for 32 yards and Miami's Stephen Morris completed 10 of 18 for a game-high 89 yards but was intercepted twice. Clemson's Tajh Boyd was 7 of 16 for 31 yards and an interception and Thomas was sacked five times.
