Mariners acquire Hart and Morrison, World Series odds get boost

The Seattle Mariners continue to be big players when it comes to acquiring talent this offseason. A busy Wednesday saw them land two of the best first basemen-slash-outfielders on the market with the signing of Corey Hart and trading for Logan Morrison and books have taken notice.

According to, following the two pickups, the Mariners odds to win the World Series jumped from 30/1 to 25/1 and their odds to win the American League pennant went from 15/1 to 12/1.

That is a dramatic leap forward for the Mariners, who only a few weeks ago were 60/1 to win the World Series. But thanks to bringing in superstar second baseman Robinson Cano, along with Hart and Morrison, things are looking up for a team that hasn't won more than 75 games in the past four seasons.

Hart signed a one-year incentive-filled deal that is pending a physical. Hart missed all of 2012 with a knee injury. His best season was in 2012 when he hit .270 with 30 home runs and 83 RBIs with Milwaukee.

Morrison, who was acquired in a trade from the Miami Marlins for relief pitcher Carter Capps, has also been hampered by injuries of late having knee surgery of his own back in 2012. He only played 85 games last season for Miami. His best season was back in 2011 when he hit 23 homers and 72 RBIs for the Marlins.
