IOC to set up special unit to combat betting

In an effort to combat illegal betting on the Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee will set up a 'special unit' to thwart betting and match-fixing.

Per a Reuters report:

Olympic athletes and officials are forbidden from placing wagers on any event in the Games. The IOC has previous measures in place to watch for betting patterns or peculiar wagers.

Female badminton players from South Korea, China and Indonesia were scrutinized at the London Games for intentionally losing matches to secure a more favorable draw.

An Irish sailor named Peter O'Leary had bet on a fellow sailor at the 2008 Games but received nothing more than a warning.
