Islanders acquire Thomas Vanek in trade with Sabres

The New York Islanders have won the Thomas Vanek sweepstakes, acquiring the skilled forward from the Buffalo Sabres.

Heading to Buffalo is winger Matt Mouson, a 2014 first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2015.

Vanek is on a point-per-game pace this season with four goals and nine assists in 13 games for the Sabres.

The Isles season points total was set at 91.5 after a very good year which earned them a trip to the playoffs in the lockout-shortened season.

Through 11 games, the Islanders have 11 points.

Vanek will get his first taste of life as an Islander as he and his new teammates will host the New York Rangers Tuesday night.
