NFL Prop Shop: Week 8's best player prop bets

Don’t limit your NFL bets to just sides and totals each Sunday. Covers Expert Sean Murphy opens the doors to the Prop Shop, giving you his favorite player prop picks for Week 8.

Most passing yards

Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Matt Stafford (Detroit Lions)

The last time these two teams hooked up back in 2011, Tony Romo threw for 331 yards compared to Matt Stafford's 240 but the Lions still prevailed by a 34-30 score.

This time around, I expect Stafford to win the yardage duel.

The Lions QB is in excellent form right now, having thrown seven touchdowns compared to just one interception over the last two games. He threw for 357 yards in last week's narrow loss to the Bengals.

Tony Romo also threw for over 300 yards last week, but tossed only one touchdown compared to two interceptions. I'm not sure the Cowboys are eager to have him slinging it all over the field against a porous, but opportunistic Lions defense on Sunday.

Take: Stafford

Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Carson Palmer (Arizona Cardinals)

Even with a depleted receiving corps, Falcons QB Matt Ryan managed to throw for 273 yards and three touchdowns in last week's win over Tampa Bay. He'll face a tougher challenge this week, but I expect him to rise to the occasion, and once again carry this team on his back.

Carson Palmer has thrown 11 interceptions in his last five games. Last week against Seattle, Palmer attempted 45 passes but still managed to throw for only 258 yards.

Atlanta may not be known for its defense, but that unit is going to have to step up moving forward with a number of key injuries on the offensive side of the ball. Note that the Falcons defense has held its own against the pass this season, allowing just 6.1 yards per pass play.

Take: Ryan

Most rushing yards

Alfred Morris (Washington Redskins) vs. Knowshon Moreno (Denver Broncos)

The Broncos defense drew plenty of praise early in the season, but those same supporters have turned into critics lately. After getting torched by the Colts last week, I'm expecting a big effort from the Broncos 'D' against Washington on Sunday.

It's not as if Denver has been getting gashed by the run. It checks in allowing just 3.3 yards per rush this season.

On the flip side, the Redskins are giving up 4.6 yards per rush after allowing the Bears to gain 140 yards on just 22 attempts last Sunday.

Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno has been relatively quiet lately, but has gained over 90 yards on two different occasions this season. I look for him to eclipse that number here.

Take: Moreno

Most pass receptions

Vernon Davis (San Francisco 49ers) vs. Cecil Shorts (Jacksonville Jaguars)

Vernon Davis had a team-high eight pass targets last week, but hauled in only four catches. That came on the heels of a season-high eight-catch performance against Arizona in Week 6. I fully expect the 49ers tight end to return to form on Sunday against Jacksonville.

Cecil Shorts matched a season-high with eight catches against San Diego last week. He continues to play through a shoulder injury though and I don't see him breaking through again facing a much stiffer challenge this week.

Justin Blackmon remains the focal point of the Jaguars offense. While the 49ers will key on him defensively this week, they're not going to give Shorts much open field either. It's not difficult to handcuff the Jags offense these days with a running game that's stuck in neutral.

Take: Davis
