Spread jumps with Browns trading Richardson, starting Hoyer

The Cleveland Browns will be without their two top offensive weapons versus the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, moving Cleveland from a 3.5-point underdog to +6.5.

The Browns made waves Wednesday night, trading RB Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round pick, according to ESPN. This trade came on the heels of the decision that Cleveland will start third-string QB Brian Hoyer against the Vikings after No. 1 QB Brandon Weeden injured his thumb versus the Baltimore Ravens last weekend.

According to Michael Stewart of CarbonSports.ag, 86 percent of the action was on Minnesota before the Richardson trade, moving their opening line of Vikings -3.5 to -6 as of Wednesday afternoon. The total for Sunday’s game has also been adjusted, dropping from 41 to 40.5 with 82 percent of the money riding on the Under. Oddsmakers have tacked on an extra point to the spread since the Richardson trade with the total staying at 40.5.

Richardson had rushed for 105 yards and no touchdowns in two games for the Browns this season. His backup is undrafted free-agent Bobby Rainey. Richardson, the Browns third overall pick in 2012, rushed for 950 yards and 11 TDs last season.

Hoyer, who was a back up in New England and Arizona, has attempted just 96 career passes. His lone NFL start came for Arizona in Week 17 last season. He went 19 for 35 for 225 yards passing, with one touchdown and one interception in a 27-13 loss to San Francisco.
