Gov. Chris Christie backing legalized sports betting

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared on a sports talk radio program Monday and championed the movement to legalize sports betting, reports the Washington Times.

Per the article:

The state of New Jersey has been mired in a legal battle with the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and NCAA since 2011, when a referendum was passed to clear the way for sports betting.

Christie believes that the states should be able to decide for themselves if they want legalized sports betting.

The Governor is preparing for re-election in New Jersey and is rumored to be pondering a run at the 2016 presidency.

Joemw74 New Jersey put sports betting to a vote already it passed so Christie doesn't have to put it to a vote again. we voted for sports betting now its up to Chrisitie to find loophole or whatever to make it happen or wait for this court ruling. its very frustrating actually. New Jersey did also legalize online gambling so seems like in the fall from what ive heard we can play online poker blackjack etc. it would be through the casinos in AC or through reputable companies. I agree with you on all these other forms of gambling are legal everywhere but sports betting. If the NFL MLB NBA NHL NCAA don't realize there ratings are driven by sports betting then they are blind. I mean really does the NFL think that people want to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars play the Buffalo Bills? sorry to both teams fans but you know what I mean. Only people that really watch that are the ones with money on the game

same old, same old.....It's not about state by state; it's about the 'Feds' change comes from Washington, not the state of NJ. which has no leverage over the USDOJ, and the by laws of sports betting in the USA, leaving the state of Nevada as the only 'legal' option available.

It would be absolutely genius if Christie then says OK NFL. We are going to make it illegal to play fantasy football in New Jersey. Any resident of NJ will not be able to sign up on certain sites. If they are truly against gambling then they should have no issue with that right?

exactly, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA has nothing to do with New Jersey to legalize sports gambling in the state! The leagues cant prohibit New Jersey to legaliza sports gambling. The league makes all the money off fans n tv money! Therefore, allow the people of New Jersey to vote if they want to legalize or not legalize sports gambling. After the vote passes, all the other states need to legalize sports gambling. Every state should be able to have sports gambling. There are dog tracks horse tracks, casinos, slots, tables, etc... Its unreal ... People will always gamble illegally.
