Nine arrested in Philadelphia betting ring bust

An illegal gambling ring bust yielded nine arrests in Northeast Philadelphia early Friday, according to CBSPhilly.

Nine men, from as young as 26 to 48 years of age, face racketeering charges.

Per CBSlocal.com:

It is alleged that the group resorted to violent methods to collect debts, including one incident using a hatchet.

The leader - a man named Ylli Gjeli - and a member named Fatimir Mustafaraj face possible life sentences while the others face a maximum of 20 years.

this isn't the 1960s and 1970s anymore....plus look at the guys names...they probably aren't even legal citizens...point is there are other options to bet not give your money or have to deal with such idiots...but there are always enough customers to go around I guess, but this should be a last resort

Backwards country. I earn that money through blood, sweat, and tears. What I choose to do with it is not the governments business. Not the business of some politicians to say "Hey, gambling is illegal here. You want to gamble? Move to the desert in Nevada." No thanks. These are businessmen providing a service. Like another poster said, no one is forcing us to bet.

Im sure like 95% of the books today these Philly guys were a online books. Seams Theres a lot more to the story than them just being bookies. Look at the sentences there facing .doesn't add up . Ill still stay with a bookie with online capabilities rather than putting my credit card ,social sec number ,address where I live phone number ect.. on a gambling site just so I can make a bet.,with my own money that I had to first deposit so these sites can use it Not to mention that after all that when I win I have to pay money to get my money in transaction fees or western union on and on .The real crooks are the so called legit online sites that just nickel and dime you to death

All the crap going on in the world and this is what they are worried about. Leave the books alone they are providing a service that people use of their own free will, no one is forcing them to place that bet.
