NBA Top 3: Rookie of the Year contenders
With summer league over and training camp just over one month away, now is a good time to have a look at some viable contenders for the NBA Rookie of the Year. Victor Oladipo of the Orlando Magic has the been the favorite since oddsmakers opened lines for the award, but here is a look at some outsiders that present some value for anyone looking at this prop bet.Ben McLemore, Sacramento Kings (+1,000)
McLemore will probably begin the season as a backup guard to Marcus Thornton, but don't be surprised to see him in the starting rotation at some point. Sacramento will no doubt be terrible again, so minutes could come fast and furious if the former Jayhawk improves steadily over the course of the season. He's not much of a distributor, recording zero assists this summer, but the Kings brought him in to get buckets. Which he can do.Cody Zeller, Charlotte Bobcats (+2,000)
Zeller was fantastic in summer league tallying 16.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg and 1.5 apg. The fourth overall pick should see plenty of game time with the cellar-dwelling Bobcats. If he can translate his summer league performances into some quality regular season games, he'll be able to make a serious case for rookie of the year honors.
Dennis Schroeder, Atlanta Hawks (+2,500)
If you aren't familiar with Dennis Schroeder, you will be shortly. The German point guard impressed in summer league averaging 5.6 assists per game, good enough for second in the summer league. People are comparing him to Rajon Rondo. He is not a good shooter at all, but is a true making point guard and should instantly contribute to the Hawks.
