Nevada books win big on basketball, baseball in June

Nevada sportsbooks kicked off the summer with a profitable June, thanks to big wins in both basketball and baseball betting.

According to the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, Nevada books brought in more than $3.37 million on basketball (does not differentiate between college and NBA) in June.

That schedule included nine NBA Playoff contests – most notably the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, which went the full seven games. Those earnings topped June 2012, which recorded $1.36 million on basketball betting, despite 13 NBA Playoff games that month.

Baseball, which earned $10.6 million through the first two months of the MLB season, earned $6.88 million for Nevada sportsbooks in June, bringing the 2013 season total to more than $17.4 million. The month’s earnings eclipsed the $4.21 million won on baseball the previous June.

Overall, Silver State books took in about $12.7 million in June, a huge jump from the $5.69 million won in May. On the year, Nevada sportsbook are up $60.1 million (January to June). Sportsbooks on the Las Vegas strip accounted for $8.14 million on the state’s overall winnings in June.

The category of “other sports”, which includes NHL, tennis, golf, boxing, MMA, soccer, brought in $2.6 million for Nevada books in June. The PGA's U.S. Open and Wimbledon headlined the calendar for those outlining events that month. “Other sports” won $1.18 million in May and $1.9 million in April.

Nevada casinos won $792,496,546 total in June, down 4.81 percent from $832,534,319 in June 2012. They brought in $897,232,001 in May and $854,293,047 in April.

I agree, it would be nice if our politicians would look to sports wagering as a source for revenues to make up for falling tax collections, Here in Michigan it is ok to play the lottery, to play Bingo, the Horse tracks or to go to one of the states Many casinos. but it is a big NO when it comes to sports books . Wake up politicians and let's get this done ! Brian

it just goes to show you how hard baseball is to win. It is the hardest sport to bet, Vegas is not kill football and make 17 million dollars of a betting football from customers. When I see that baseball has killed us and help the sports books makes me realize that baseball is just too unpredictable
