Three winners from Friday's NHL free-agent frenzy

The NHL free agency period has started with a bang as many teams scramble to sign top free agents.

Here are three winners from Friday’s free-agent frenzy:

Detroit Red Wings

Futures odds:
The LVH SuperBook had the Wings at 10/1 prior to the opening of free agency. Detroit is currently being dealt anywhere between 10/1 and 20/1 depending on where you shop.

The Wings had a big day luring two captains to the Motor City. In a shocking move, Detroit plucked long-time Senators RW Daniel Alfredsson away from Ottawa and snagged C Stephen Weiss from Florida on the open market.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Futures odds: The LVH had the Blue Jackets at 40/1 prior to free agency and they’re still being dealt around that mark at most shops.

The Jackets were the best bet on the puckline last season (36-12 ATS) and bolstered their attack by signing RW Nathan Horton to a long-term deal.

Nashville Predators

Futures odds: The LVH had the Predators at 50/1 prior to Friday and they’re now being shopped at 40/1 at some online books.

The Predators didn’t sign any big names but were extremely busy making subtle upgrades Friday. The Preds added forwards Eric Nystrom, Matt Hendricks, Matt Cullen and Viktor Stalberg to help spark the offense next season. Nashville also recently selected stud defensive prospect Seth Jones at the NHL Entry Draft.

Other notable additions:

Edmonton Oilers – D Andrew Ference
Toronto Maple Leafs – F David Clarkson
Ottawa Senators – Acquired F Bobby Ryan via trade, signed F Clarke MacArthur
Philadelphia Flyers –  G Ray Emery
Phoenix Coyotes – F Mike Ribeiro
New Jersey Devils – F Ryane Clowe
Boston Bruins - Jarome Iginla
