Pro handicappers share best college football win total Under picks

College football season doesn’t officially kick off for another two months but tell that to sports bettors after online book 5Dimes.eu released their 2013 season win totals for all 125 FBS programs.

With those odds still hot off the presses, and Las Vegas books posting theirs in the weeks to come, we turned it over to the experts – the Covers Experts – to see which over/under win totals plays have caught their sharp eyes.

Here are Covers Experts’ favorite teams to go 'under' their win total in 2013:

Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Under 9.5 (-230)

“The Irish ran the table in 2012, but along the way they were fortunate to win some close games that easily could have gone the other way,” says Covers Expert Jesse Schule. “They lost Manti Te'o to the NFL draft and it looks like they will also lose Everett Golson because of academic issues. The Irish have a tough schedule, hosting Oklahoma, Michigan State and facing Michigan on the road all early in the season.”

UNLV Runnin' Rebels - Under 4.5 (-140)

“The Rebels haven’t won more than two games in any of Bobby Hauck’s first three seasons on the job, and Hauck is clearly on the hot seat heading into 2013,” says pro handicapper Teddy Covers. “The Rebels haven’t won a road game since 2009 and three of their four Mountain West home games are against the elite teams of the conference.  Throw in a 1-5 SU track record over the past two years as a favorite (including two SU losses as double-digit chalk over 1-AA teams) and asking this Rebels team to win five games this year is simply not something I’m willing to do.”

California Golden Bears – Under 4.5 (-160)

“Cal finished 3-9 SU and ATS (2-7 in Conference). There’s a new direction on both sides of the ball and the offensive line issues,” says Covers Expert Art Aronson. “They have young receivers and defenders and, oh yeah, zero QB experience.”

Virginia Tech Hokies – Under 9.5 (-180)

“The Hokies offense was terrible in 2012 and in an effort to bolster their attack, they have turned to new offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler coming over from Auburn,” says Covers Experts Will Rogers. “He didn't enjoy a lot of success with the Tigers, as their offense ranked 115th of 120 FBS schools. While Logan Thomas is back at quarterback, the Hokies have a long way to go in establishing a running game after finishing 79th in the nation in rushing in 2012.”

Boise State Broncos – Under 10.5 (-210)

“Joe Southwick will be back at quarterback after finishing strong last season, but the Broncos lose three starters on the offensive line as well as starting running back D.J. Harper,” says Schule. “They open the season in Washington, in what figures to be a revenge match after they narrowly defeated the Huskies in the MAACO Bowl last December. Things should be a little tougher for the Broncos this time around.”

West Virginia Mountaineers - Under 5.5 (+160)

“With a first-round draft choice at quarterback, a first and third rounder at wide receiver and a loaded, experienced offensive line, West Virginia finished the regular season 6-6 last year,” says Teddy Covers. “Five of those wins came in games that the Mountaineers were favored by double digits. This year, they’ve got only two real patsies on the slate and it’s a clear rebuilding season for a weak defensive team in a tough conference.”

If I see UNLV at 4.5 I am taking that under! I, like Ktrain, have not seen that in a Las Vegas book. Maybe on Strip where I don't go?

I love ND under 9.5 wins Never thought they were that good last season, and as you mentioned, won games they could and should have easily lost,so am expecting the Irish to have a bad season

I'm surprised UNLV went up that far. They opened locally at 2.5 and are up to 3, last I checked. Over locally when it opened and under on 5dimes would have made for a great middle opportunity.
